OK well day 2 started with the tiler arriving and realising that he didn’t have the correct product to do our floors. Totally my fault because I had told them we thought it was a cement floor but didn’t realise it would be floorboards under there. So he went off and did another job and retro daddy had the joy of ripping out the existing flooring and prepping the room for painting. And anytime he wanted to complain about the job I did remind him that he wanted to paint himself to save money. And it is a big saving to do the painting yourself.
The electrician came out and we’ve got 3 double power points going where my bench space is, one in a pantry for my microwave and some will go in the island for the dishwasher and also because I love popping my thermomix and kitchen on the island to cook.
On day 3 the tiler came back out and laid down a special product that kind of looks like cement and makes a nice surface to lay the tiles down. It was stinky but you’ve got to love closing the door to the kitchen and staying in another part of the house.
So let the tiling begin…………………………………
I’m so excited for you. Love reading the updates.
awwww thanks! love how you’re up early in the morning these days:)
Remembering your “previous” kitchen I can’t wait to see this one finished.
oh thank you! me too! so exciting now that we’ve started
Eagerly awaiting the next installment in the retro kitchen reno! I am totally living vicariously through you 😉 I even have those HEINOUS light shades in our kitchen! Just the one, and I do believe it’s more abhorrent than yours. I should instagram you a pic *shudder*. Problem is we don’t own the house, so retro light fittings and garden taps in the kitchen will be staying Kitchens I have used as a nanny for families with lovely kitchens I have always used kitchenaid/thermo on island, power points essential.
oh yes I was wondering if anyone wanted the light shades! thinking ebay, you never know! I thought this was 5 years away but thanks to the blog we’re getting to renovate now but trust me in our renting days there were some pretty bad kitchens too:) you’ll get there and when you do it will be AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!
Go retro daddy!! Sounds like my hobby, who luckily is a sparky and also very handy. Saves alot of money

Hubby!!! oops.

So very excited for you Corrie! My hubby and I just finished a massive renovation on a rental property early this year. I loved the whole process and am thoroughly enjoying watching how everything is progressing on yours. I feel a part of it!
