The thing about renovating is that there are days where although there are no workmen on site, there are still jobs to do. Today I had written myself a note that I must buy the kitchen tap. With the kitchen arriving next friday it’s kind of important.
Lucky for me that leaving it until the last minute meant I saved 15%. Now you have got to love that. I finally settled on the Nicolazzi bridging mixer in chrome. I went around and around in circles trying to decide what finish to go with and went back to my original choice.
This week saw us head up to Alfresco Emporium for the table. Quite possibly the most extravagent purchase in the whole renovation but I know we’re going to love it and it will just make the whole space complete. And I’m still loving the floors. Such a difference from the original cypress pine floors that used to be here.
This weekend I need to go and choose the tiles and kitchen handles and then I’m done with the little things for the kitchen. For a while. There are still bar stools and dining chairs to pick too. It’s the little details and having so much choice that can take up a lot of time (and worry). But it’s all coming together now. I hope.
And I realised I hadn’t even stepped out the back to see how gorgeous the french doors are from the other side. Gorgeous. I’m so in love with the french doors. Can you believe that there was once a daggy old brown sliding door here with a fly screen too. What a difference.
I might have found a new favourite place to photograph my littlies. In fact the whole space has just changed our house so much and I love the house more than I do when we bought it.
Before the renovation I wanted to sell and move on to a bigger house but now that it’s looking so lovely out here I don’t want to go. And isn’t retro daddy glad to hear that.
And totally unrelated to my kitchen. Today I took these 3 with me to Elodie’s paeditrician appointment and I forgot how many stares we get, are they all yours (and I only had 3 with me) and so on. But one man looked at them, looked at me, told me how beautiful they were and how blessed I was. Amen. Don’t you love it when people have something nice to say.
I love french doors and yours are looking gorgeous and with your beautiful windows too….it all goes together so well Your kiddies are so adorable too!
I do love it when people say nice things about me and my kids. I’m not surprised that you got a nice comment though, your kids are beautiful. Your French doors are lovely too. How lovely would it be to replace our ugly sliding door with French ones. Maybe one day…
OMG I love that tap!!!
I get similar comments when I just take the two boys out. Oh two boys must be a handful blah blah then I tell them we have two more, the looks priceless!
Your space is looking totally Gorg sweetie! Can’t wait to see the table!
So nice to hear someone say positive things to a mom with young children. It is so important to remember the comments when things aren’t so easy. You are a great mom.
Love the room – floors make such a difference – too bad they will get covered with the cabinets and other stuff.
Kind words like that from a stranger gladden my heart. So happy to that man taking the time to tell you what beautiful babies you have. You are blessed : )
The space is looking great so far.
Lovely man. He must come from when bigger families were the norm. I used to get the same question, as if 3 children amounts to a huge amount. I can see that the children are loving the new space and shiny floors too. I have fond memories of wooden floors from when I was a kid – the shiny smoothness that allows you to perform all sorts of limb contortions. Cherrie
Your new kitchen is coming along great. Isn’t amazing what it costs to do a project like this?. We just had a new roof put on (metal shingles) and it cost what our first house cost that we bought in the 70s. 40K for a roof is unbelievable. Really nice and spacious. So nice to have so much space for fun times together as a family. Your children are beautiful and so sweet! I miss those days…….be sure you stop and enjoy them because they grow up way too fast. seems like yesterday my boys were 4 and 6 and now they are 34 and 36 and have children of their own.
The space is gorgeous but I think your dear children are the most precious household item.
It is good to see little Elodie joining in the fun with the twinnies. (goodness they are growing up too fast).
Floors made such a difference to a room. We went with bamboo flooring and it’s sooooo lovely to walk on. I used to always wear something on my feet, but now I love to walk around in bare feet.
I totally hear you on the stares from people when you have multiple children in tow. I have three children of my own (although I am pretty sure I want one more ), but I often have extra children with me. The stares I get are priceless. Like today, I had to go out and get a present for a birthday party. I had one of Scarlett’s friends with me, as she is staying over and I am taking her to the party tomorrow, so I had 4 children in total. Every other person looked at me and you could tell they were thinking the 4 were all mine. I felt quite proud actually. I like being a mother hen, so to speak. It’s funny to think that the extra girl I had, could easily pass as one of ours! Jacinta x
The floors look amazing! On the kid front, I have a friend with 6 – 5 girls and a boy! Now she gets comments! My husband loves it when our two neices are here from overseas… He then takes the 4 girls to the shops and feels very proud! Of course, my two neices are always on their best behavior with their uncle and my two girls on their best behavior cause they are happy to be with their beloved little cousins. I would have loved a bigger family, you are very blessed.
Yep, you’re right Corrie, it’s the little things said by strangers, that are sometimes the nicest things to hear. He was right, you are beautifully blessed with your babies :o)
The reno is looking superb, so exciting to see it all coming together for you! xo
I have three boys, all adults now. I was used to comments asking me if I was planning on a football team or just a relay team.
However, one stranger made my day during a 90 minute train trip when a comment was made on how polite and well behaved my boys were. They all sat and read! A similar comment when they were all in their teens was also welcomed, although I wondered what the commenter would have said had she been in my home most of the time.
Oh wow, looking good!! Love that space & how they are all enjoying that new floor, it has totally lightened up the back area.
I still get asked if they are all mine, & STILL get told “oh what a handful” & they’re all in school?? Honestly, i just shut them down as my 4 are so well behaved & i say “i absolutely love it, they’re fantastic children”. What do they want to hear you say “oh i know, isn’t it dreadful, what was i thinking??” Ha!! Love Posie
