Well day 1 is over and welcome to my war zone. I really didn’t know what to expect when I opened the door to see what they’d been up to after they’d left. I’d hear bricks fall, tiles smash, things drop, people coming and going, the water was turned off for most of the day which meant I really had to go to the gym whether I liked it or not, the twins kept asking to play out the back which they couldn’t, the ipad got a good workout, strangers were using my bathroom and for elodie it was life as usual with a few startled looks from her when things got noisy
so 1 day down and 30 to go? But the builders got through so much work in one day. It took my breath away when I opened the door and saw how much had been done. Swear words were running through my head when I looked up!
Of course it’s so dusty and full of rubble that none of the kids wanted to go upstairs, then I realised the stair light wasn’t on and I couldn’t find the torch so had to carry a candle around to get upstairs. So we all slept in the loungeroom. Today I’m off to get a torch and airbed just in case they don’t want to go up again.
And thank you for your encouraging comments yesterday. They will definitely keep me going and keep me positive during the whole process. I know this is the worst part. And yes we are staying while they do the work.
And that was day one!
It will all go wonderfully for you, just keep focused on the end result (or you will surely go nuts!). As for being decent by 7:30am, I had many an early morning meeting with tradies in my done-up-to-the-neck housecoat but generally I tried to be in some sort of street clothing, didn’t want to completely scare them! We will look forward to the progress photos.
You are off to a great start. Hang in there and keep in mind how wonderful it will look when it is finished.
wow !!!! they did a lot in one day.
It will all be over before you know it.
Living in the home while it is being remodeled is so difficult but YOU can do it!
Thanks for sharing this with us.
Keep the photos coming!
No rats!! Hope the reno proceeds as fast as the demo! Hang in there Corrie – keep your eye on the ball and where your gorgeous kitchen is headed. Thanks for the photos. Nancy
DO tell how you are doing cooking wise. We will be doing the same and talking of staying here as well. Cannot phantom a month of no kitchen utilities on hand!!!
Geez Corrie, it looks like a disaster zone! It will be worth it in the end. x
I’m so jealous already! Do you have a pic of the plan up in the bathroom? It will keep you motivated to know that there will be a beautiful ending.
Wow Corrie, how exciting. I look forward to seeing how it unfolds! It will be so nice for you when it’s all done.
Wow! It will be so worth it when it’s finished. My parents stayed at home through a kitchen / bathroom reno and managed with a microwave, fridge, kettle and hotplate in the sunroom – is that what you’re doing? Or lots of takeaway 😉
Asides of the dirt, the lack of water and the fact that the kids canb’t play out the back I think you are on to quite an adventure. Sleeping in the lounge room with Mummy has to be great fun for the littlies. Cherrie
I remember when my kitchen was demolished on day 1 of our renos I came home from work and burst into tears when I saw it! Now that I’m home with my kids I am so glad we did it – I spend most of the day in here! Hope it goes smoothly for you.
How very exciting. They got so much done in one day, looking forward to seeing it progress.
Oh imagine how amazing that’s going to look when it’s done! I can’t believe they got so much finished in one day.
White French doors. I am SO jealous x
Oh wow, what a…start! It will get better!
Oh goodness, it would be a might disconcerting to see all that rubble in the house, but it looks like you have an efficient team working on your dream kitchen.
OMG, i could hardly work out where in the house this was, until i remembered you showing me what you wanted & where, years ago. Looks amazing, OMG, dinner at your place next visit, love Posie
I think you’re going to have one beautiful kitchen sooner then you think I’ve also had kitchen samll redo lately and also stayed home with my family, so don’t worry new kitchen is worth every small troubles
Oh WOW Corrie, no turning back now! Isn’t it amazing how quickly things can be destroyed… it does look like a war zone. But you’re right, the hard part is underway, only onwards and upwards from here :o) xo
That room is going to be AMAZING!
