Don’t you love it when your plans for a day totally change but it turns out to be a better day than you had planned. We had organised to take my dad on a picnic for fathers day and his birthday. Everything was packed and by the door but just as were leaving the rain started. Don’t you hate that! So instead of picking up the hot chickens we went to a gourmet pizza place where we had the outside terrace all to ourselves………….this is important when 5 small children are involved.
and they had all the good stuff that kids love – lemonade, kids pizza, colouring on the tables and we finished with chocolate cake. In case you’re wondering it’s the never fail chocolate cake with a quick chocolate frosting and bag of freckles. And I layered that frosting on so thick – it was so good. I actually had frosting after breakfast and it was a great start to the day. Really recommend it.
And how convenient that the restaurant was opposite the Birkenstock store…….and when buying 4 pairs of birkenstocks they threw in a free 2nd pair for Keira too. OK so they are bedazzled and have ladybugs on them but they were a huge hit with keira. But do not try this at home. Taking all 4 into a shoe shop to get fitted is a noisy and expensive affair. Definitely something to do with retro daddy. But at least we have summer feet sorted and I have long loved the quality and comfort of the Birkenstocks. I always get myself a new pair every summer and am loving my pick for this year – perfect to wear with jeans, skirts, shorts and dresses.
YES! I have little fat feet
And then as we were walking to the car I saw a cute store called Neck of the Woods which I hadn’t seen before but it had 40% off everything in store. I need to go back (of course!). Oh and they had saltwater sandals but not in red which I’m really itching to have this summer. But I did manage to pick up a few market props for my next Mathilda’s which will look great on my tables – if I can ever get them back from Keira that is.
And to finish off the day we took a drive up to North Head to try to get little people to sleep. I took it as an opportunity to jump out of the car and take a quick pic. Man, I love just being able to jump in the car and drive somewhere as beautiful as this lookout.
Now that is what I call a great saturday – totally different to what we had planned but a great one. Or if you ask retro daddy he’d say a much more expensive day that he had planned! I prefer to look at it this way – we supported our local economy and spent our money close to home.
But whichever way you look at it- we got the kids out of the house and totally exhausted them which then gave me a nice long rest on the couch in the afternoon.
Corrie I love birkinsticks too! Beat summer shoes ever! … I actually just ordered mine from here http://www.baumhouse.com/
They are sooooo cheap and ship directly from Germany within the week! … Shipping is $60 but if you are buying multiple pairs (with family or friends) it makes it so worth it!
… An no trip to the store which I always prefer not to do with littlies!

Oh yay for your Daddy with his special family. It rained here in Canberra too, the minute we stepped out to do anything (um, a 150km party drop off circle, thank goodness sleepovers, but i have to it again in the morning, only further as there are more parties tomorrow) so tell your Daddy he wasn’t missing any weather!!
Birkenstocks, they are truly one thing my children never wore out before they grew out of them, brilliant to hand down to siblings. I tried to stick to unisex styles so they suited the girls & my boy at the end. Most of our pairs were free – as in my parents go to Bikenstock in HK & post them back, brilliant!!
Let me know when you retire the silver ones so i’m safe to wear them around you, so we’re not too matchy matchy. My last pair were deep purple patent leather, they are fantastic!!
Your day sorted itself out nicely, love Posie
Sounds like a great day!
Wonderful family day and a happy outing for your dad too I imagine.
So sweet to see the girls sleeping.
What a great day.
A tip on the Birkinstocks. Take them back to the shop next year and they can resole them up to two sizes bigger. Some of ours are on their third season!
Sounds like you made the most of a pretty miserable, rainy day! I love Ironbark – such great pizza. xxx
Corrie, I was ordering some Saltwater Sandals from O/S and they told me that the supplier is out of stock of Red leather until December….. not sure if it true or not, but just thought I would let you know.
Sounds like a great Saturday and I’m so jealous of you getting new Berkies! I must try and get to my local one soon but I will leave the kids at home!
Sounds like the perfect day! Jacinta
Corrie you totally rock! What a wonderful time for the girls! From the looks of it, they had a very good time…looks like you wore them out! Nice to see the Mister. Luv
Loving your Birkenstocks and your red painted nails! All class x
Sounds like a wonderful day to me too Corrie! Love the pics. The lookout at North Head is beautiful.
Gorgeous choice of sandal also and very pretty red toes… how good is it to get everyone sorted with sandals for Summer! Well done :o) xo
