Mishka, the latest addition to our family, is an indoors cat. But when I woke up this morning she wasn’t following me downstairs and I spent a good half hour searching the house and outside for her. I couldn’t figure out how she would have escaped and did the whole shake the cat biscuit box/ tap her bowl with a fork/make kissy kissy noises/shine a light behind the clothes dryer and calling out her name.
I drove to school slowly looking everywhere for the cat. When I came home ready to search for her retro daddy said I found the cat, I said where, he said don’t freak out – on the roof. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat. So I went out the back and there she was….on the roof with a very scared meow going on. I kept talking to her and walked over to a higher part of the backyard and in a couple of minutes she had come down via the awning, fence and into the pool area and back to us. Phew. And that was one cat’s big adventure.
I have a retired breeding siamese…a few times I looked out the window and there she was sitting in the garden, watching the world go by.
Upon moving a few weeks ago, I got hublet to build a 3mtr x 4mtr cat cage that has a cat door through the window to inside…there where $2000 visions around but we did it 4 $4oo…I’ll blog it soon.
The benifits are…the outside cat can’t kill now & the inside cat can now get that much needed sun and weather change to molt properly…its been heaps better and all are happy…Ps eucaliptus old is the best for piddle smells.
Oh the poor thing would have been so scared. I wonder if she had chased something up there? Either way I’m glad it was a happy ending and the cat was found lol.
What a great way to start your quiet week! Good thing you have a very healthy sense of humour Corrie! All’s well that end’s well….
We have a three-legged cat, Trip (short for tripod) who goes on the roof all the time. He drives me insane with what he gets up to! We tried to keep him as an indoor cat but you should see the carry on he makes if we don’t open the door!
Cats have a mind of their own and get into some amazing places!
Ah, poor Mischka. Wanted adventure, then bit off more than she could chew. My littlest kittehs do that.
One of my kits regularly jumps on to the roof – uses it as a highway, actually, between one place and another. She looks fab in black furry profile against the navy night sky.
Cheeky little monkey, my cat is always up on the shed roof, on top of the water tank, on hight garden screens- they always find a way to get down again!
Poor kitty. It did make me giggle though – reminded me of when my cat was a kitten and got stuck on the hen house roof. I tried to help him, and ended up falling in a BIG patch of stinging nettles!!!
Just read your comments about the cat and noticed the “you might like” article re large families adn just had to comment. I really love your blog but sadly havent been able to work out how to do my own yet. A little technically defficent but am working on it.
Big families are wonderful, I have 9 children ages 17 -32 not a common size these days. Truthfully we didnt question too much in our day, just loved having our family and the ups adn downs that happen because/inspite of the size. IT would be lovely to say we did it in style,it has been a struggle, our house is still not finished, the kids certainly learnt to do without and I learnt to fix and make do. But with all that said , most had the opportunity to pursue the things they really wanted to and they are all wonderful members of the community with such different and unique personalities. We feel blessed that we were able to have a large family and live in an area where they could roam free and mix with a rather large batch of cousins 47 all up between both sides. So I am all for it but believe it has to be a joint decision. IT provides such a unique and safe environment for children to learn so many things
Cats climb, you know 😉 I would freak out if I were you. Good thing all ended well.
My cats love exploring outside – maybe Mishka is now an outdoor cat too???
Cats are so mischievous, I love them! Our cats used to climb high up on our carport roof. If they felt like it, they would meow for us to help them down. But the little devils would sometimes come to the edge, only to scamper off when we made the effort to try and get them. Oh yes, cats have it all worked out ;o)
Glad Mishka is ok!
What kind of cat is she?
Oh my goodness! I think I would’ve fallen over, seeing the cat on the roof.
Chocolate. Time for chocolate, I think!
A very adventurous moggie! Ours likes to have a roam but can’t live without her home comforts. And I just can’t sleep if she won’t come home at night. She’s our baby! x
That was a big adventure for Mishka!
Once, my mom was looking after my cat zzyzx when I was away for the weekend. Mom stopped in to feed her, and no cat! Looked all thru’ the house, calling, shaking the treat can, etc. No cat. (And zzyzx was an indoor cat too) Then Mom noticed that the window by the cat’s basket, that was open about 2 inches, had the screen pushed out! So out goes Mom, all around the house, calling the cat. No cat. Back in the house, check behind the furniture, then into the bedroom again, look under the bed…no cat. Then she hears a strange noise – a sort of scratching sound, coming from the window area…and here comes zzyzx, climbing up the outside of the house to get back in!!
Good kitty – always home for dinner! LOL
