knitting weather

mornings and evenings are getting cooler here so I’ve been trawling through ravelry trying to find what to make now that knitting weather is approaching. I’m setting myself a rather ambitious goal of making each of my four little ones a cardigan/jumper for winter. I really had to stop myself from ordering enough wool to make my own February Lady Sweater when I realised there was no way I could finish 5 winter woollies this season. I also realised I don’t know how I survived before ravelry. I just love wasting time searching out the most popular projects, the latest projects, new designers, what substitutes I can use and best of all – looking back over what I’ve made.

I’ve also realised how much I miss knitting and how it’s really taken a back seat in the past year. So watch out blog! Knitting is coming back at retro mummy and in a big way.

  1. Knit your heart out, it’s so relaxing & you’re creating such beautiful keep sakes for your children too. I love it when my guys look back at handmade clothing & think, wow, was i really that small?? Love you knitting queen, love Posie

  2. I am ABSOLUTELY determined to learn to knit this winter (I say this every winter) but to learn to crochet was (one of) my new years resolutions. I am all thumbs though being left handed. I know how to knit, just plain stitch and casting on and off, but I just don’t want to sit there and go through that awkward learner stage. Sigh.

  3. Yay, looking forward to see your creations. I have so much that I want to knit and a few custom orders soon.

  4. I have just rediscovered knitting again and have one more project to finish before I can start looking and dreaming again – sometimes that seems the most fun bit, but then the wool arrives…bliss. Have fun with your projects and visit me to see mine if you wish.

  5. When the weather cools knitting is such a cosy passtime, I tend to loose track of time on ravelry too, I have set myself the task of knitting four little girly cardigans for my grandaughters by easter…………must be slightly unhinged.

  6. Oh gosh. I just love those socks. Gives me a strong incentive to learn to knit.

  7. Your February baby cardie inspired me to try this classic pattern – now I’ve made six (or is it seven?!)

Happy knitting! (and I agree, Ravelry is wonderful!)

  8. I too need to get back into knitting, I really need to make Cheriese a cardi as I can’t find what I want in the shops but I’m such a slow knitter so need to find something quick and easy

  9. I am getting into the knitting now too – I think day light savings having ended has spurred me on. What pattern did you use for the little pink cardigan? It’s very sweet :) Suz

  10. I’d hate to think how much time I have spent on Ravelry. I got there and seem to disappear into some sort of yarn time warp.
I have a project lined up, I just need to dye some wool first. Looking forward to seeing some more of your knitting.
I can’t wait to park myself in front of our open fire, with needles in hand. It makes this time of year so much more special.

  11. I know what you mean about Ravelry. This was actually the first summer that I knitted through, and now I can’t wait to get into the winter knitting. And blogging about it just seems to feed the obsession! Bring it on, I say. x

  12. How cute are those socks? I’ve started a little knitting too, though my skills are nowhere near where yours are! But it is a relaxing and comforting pastime, and fitting for this time of year.

  13. Knitting is my thing – love it. It’s so relaxing and great when you finish a project. Love the pictures of what you have made with knitting. The legwarmers are fab. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Leah x :)

  14. Welcome back to the knit world 😀 …I will be looking forward to seeing what you knit. I love the those little photos of tiny feet in leg warmers and socks, super cute and your Feb lady is very pretty in pink.

Your so right what we all do without ravelry ??…lol
Have fun knitting and bring on the cooler weather 😀

  15. I’m with you on ravelry. It’s such a fantastic resource as well as a perfect time waster.
April is a beautiful knitting month. Enjoy!!!
I was initially inspired by you to knit a whisper (wispy) cardi which I have now started.

  16. I look forward to seeing your creations for your kiddies :) I’m currently knitting Zander a ‘Milo’ vest from Ravelry. Its looking good and it is satisfying to be using time creatively while watching a bit of tv in the evenings!! Love those little leggings too!!

  17. I love hand knitted delights and I can’t wait to see more of your creations! Those leg warmies are just divine :o)
