the memories

Growing up I always knew how beautiful my mum was. I was always so proud of her as she always made so much effort to dress well ** and would rarely be seen without makeup or her hair done nicely. She set a high standard for us to follow.

I just love this picture of her taken in the 1970’s in England. It has always taken pride of place in her home and I think it has a Jackie Onassis quality to it. I will definitely be adding this to my collection of photos in my dining room.
** On closer recollection, there were times in high school during very cold Canberra winters when she totally embarrassed my sister and I by wearing our school tracksuit pants to drop us off or pick us up from ballet or school activities. We’d tell her to stay in the car and to not ever be seen in them. I laugh at these memories now – she could be a total dag sometimes but she was probably thinking ‘heh I fit into my teenage daughters tracksuit pants!’

  3. What a beautiful photo and such a nice memory to share with your own girls when they’re bigger. x

  4. Corrie, that is a great photo, and a wonderful way to celebrate your mum’s life. Keep kissing those babies, raising them in faith, making her proud. May God wrap you in His loving arms right now. Sending special prayers up for you. And remember – it is OK to be sad. Grieving is a process, let it happen and take heart – you’re not alone.

  5. Great photo!

  6. Stunning picture indeed and such a natural shot.

    Be kind to yourself x

  7. She was truly gorgeous, inside & out. If i fit into my teen girl’s track pants (with the ladies college logo on them & everything) i’d be doing VERY well on my diet. She would not let me out of the car either – clearly Canberra children have harsh standards. Love Posie

  8. Continued prayers for peace to you and your family as you mourn the loss this side of Heaven.

  9. She was, indeed, stunning! You resemble her, Corrie. Please be gentle with yourself. Continued prayers for your peace.

  10. What a wonderful memory for you to have. I’ve been a long follower of your blog and have somehow never commented. I’ve felt as though I should offer you a few words during this difficult time. I lost my father last year very suddenly and I know the heartache and pain. Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. It is memories like these that keep us going and remembering. Remembering is a funny thing sometimes….it can be a sad thing to do, but it can also be a wonderful thing to help us smile and laugh. So please, keep your head up as best as you can, and keep those memories flowing…tell your children and your friends and you will be amazed at the smiles you can bring to others, even complete strangers from around the world.
    xoxo

  29. Hey bloss,

a friend of mine established a special box for memories for her kids when her mum (their grandmother died). Whenever they remembered something about her my friend would write it on a piece of paper, date it, and pop it in the box. Photos wen in there too and the kids decorated the Grandma Memory Box.

Just thought it was an idea you might like.

    Been thinking of you loads.

    xxxK
