While the state of my craft room is a running joke in this house, my love of craft and making things does come in handy when you have 3 kindy birthday parties in one month. And even better is that I have plenty of market stock for presents. I simply pop a pretty dress into a little white bag I use for my markets and ta da, present done.
And then I cut a card from pretty cardstock and we’re ready to go. Mind you I’ll be totally clueless when it comes to boy birthdays but for girls we are sorted!

I made birthday bunting for my daughters first birthday – with the words happy birthday and her name. The intention is that it will come out every year as a tradition … even on her 21st, whether she likes it or not LOL!
I have made pencil rolls and little aprons for presents…wait till you get all 4 at school then you will have 3 parties a week to go to!
We had a vintage garden party in the summer and really went to town, my favourite bit apart from the mass of cakes was seeing all the children in pretty dresses playing old fashioned games on the lawn – but it was a load of work! jennyx
I’ve been known to make kids aprons and buy a few of those cute cookie cutters to go with it. And one year I made all my daughter’s friends pillowcases with their names appliqued on it with big bright letters.

I think it’s great that you give the girls some of you handmade items. I do the same for my daughter’s friends at school (well the girls anyway) – I usually give a bracelet and hair accessories and rings. I think the girls like it but I can tell you that the mothers especially appreciate it as i have been told afterwards how much they liked them. I think that they appreciate the extra effort that goes in to the present + it’s something different. They will love your gorgeous dresses!

Oh yes, Friday nights up sewing for parties!! Like Leah says, when you have 4 at school – come August to October (the birthday months) you might be up for 20 parties like i was last year. I also insist the twins give seperate gifts, i bring it on myself!! Love Posie
Its probably obvious for me – I make toys but tie on tu-tu’s and super hero capes were always popular back when my kids were small.

Well, having only one daughter and four sons..we had a lot of ‘boy’ birthday parties to get presents for…so mainly they were boy toys..and bought..especially as they all grew older. Handmade wasn’t as appreciated ten or fifteen years ago either.
The recipients are the ones who are sorted! How lucky are they. You would be the ‘mumma to be friends with’ for sure!! x
I make personalised diary covers. I started making them for my kids and then their friends started asking for them too.
I’ve also made aprons and dolls cot sets… But, the diary is the winner by a long shot!
This year for their birthdays, my neice and nephew are both getting lap quilts for watching TV and snuggling. Previous years I’ve given my nephew softies because he loves animals, and for Christmas the other year he got a library bag.
Wouldn’t know what else to give a boy…. I should probably try and come up with some ideas too 😉
I so need to get my sewing machine happening as that would be way better than having to always go to the shops to buy presents. Blah! I do always get my kids to make cards for the birthday boy or girl so at least I do one home made thing. Need to work on the rest

Corrie – I don’t know how you do it. Honestly, every time I make something the kids sneak it away immediately (my creations are usually stuffies). Then when a birthday rolls around I don’t have a stash of fun presents – I have to start over (because, of course, the stuff I’ve already made is *somewhere* !
I’ve made every gift for birthday parties this year so far ~ aprons, purses, little tote bags. But have no idea what to make for little boys, we’ll have to see if I keep it up when my son turns school-age.
I make a whole lot of nothing. Hello Target and KMart! My daughter makes a drawing. It’s all kinds of crazy creative-less-ness round these parts 😉
I make pressies too , not always and I think they are v appreciative. Im like you always ‘stuck’ when it comes to boys. Hows the car delivery coming along ??
