Well it’s Sunday morning and normally we’d be madly scrambling to get out the door for church. But we will do church tonight. The nanny is on her way over so that retro daddy, elodie and myself can head over to the other side of the city for a little test drive. Of a people mover. At first I dismissed this car bus but the space is drawing me in………..
and as I said on my facebook page, wouldn’t you love to be a fly on the wall when I park it. Parking, not one of my strong points. I am definitely one of those ladies that does a little drive around to find the perfect spot to drive into. And don’t ask me to reverse in. Any other bad parkers out there? Oh yes and didn’t you know that will be us heading off for a weekend on our very own yacht once we get the new car bus….
This looks like the PERFECT car for you and your family!! Hope it passes the test drive test!
My parents had one of these and I learned driving with it! It was perfect! I was never overlooked and parking was a breeze with it. Their current minicar is actually a lot harder to park….
Oh I bet you’ll do great! I like driving. Hate parking. There can be a spot 3 car lengths and I’ll call it parallel parking. ha ha I drove a van though and it was easier because you’re so high off the ground and the space was nice.
I traded it in though. We bought mine new but it wasn’t reliable and I couldn’t get over feeling like a soccer mom.
Looking forward to seeing the picture of the actual purchase!
Jealous! Our second car currently has no air con and the radio fuse has popped out so it is music free.
But I like the idea of a car bus, very handy.
Hey Corrie, get a green one and you could call it the Mystery Machine. Anyway, at first look it seems huge but I did some research and it seems like a really good family/people mover. We have been thinking about upgrading to a larger car as we have 3 in car seats in a Subaru Liberty Wagon. A big problem is not being able to fit anyone else in the car ie mothers in law. I like the sound of all the space and it’s got a kind of cool look to it, not daggy like a Tarago (sorry to anyone who has one). Please tell me how it goes.

Ha you will be fine, those VW bus /cars are great. I was at dropoff the other morning and I HAD to reverse park , the old 3 point turn thingy in and line up the windows etc with the other car , just like my driving instructor showed me so 29 years ago. And I got in the park , i exclaimed to my two daughters in the back , SEE WHAT A CLEVER MUMMY YOU HAVE !!! Im sure they will ‘get it ‘ one day when they learn to drive lol. I too ususally find the easiest park but this day there wasnt any. Have fun car shopping!
Have fun! Once you get the car, you’ll have to work on retro daddy for the yacht
In parking terms, I’m the opposite. I can reverse the car into any spot and I love parallel parking, but ask me to park nose first and I fail. Just can’t do it.
Cool bus)) Perfect one for a big family!
if the car has an option for reverse parking sensor and most do these days – grab it! I love mine – makes reverse parking so much easier and less stressful!
Hint – practice without the kids and husband in the car!
This will be sooo great! Those little ones will be medium-sized ones before you know it and you’ll be L.O.V.I.N.G. all that space!
I’m rather partial to the chrysler voyager – but then I only have 3 kids so my regular car will suffice
Have fun without the kiddies!

Nice to know there are others out there who also look for the easy car parks, like me. I smashed the passenger side mirror and scratched the side of the car a few months ago, in a very small car spot. Now I am even more terrified of parking (thank goodness my brother works in the car industry, and got it fixed for us for almost nothing)
Happy car hunting!
Will I make up the beds? Weren’t you guys coming down for a holiday when you got new wheels?
I have scratches up and down my car from trying to park! The kids now cheer if I get straight first go lol xox
I definitely think this is the way to go for you. I have a 4WD with two extra seats in the back and you just can’t do it with 4 kids it’s too much hassle. I would recommend you also look at the Citreon Picasso. It is a people mover but it doesn’t look like a people mover and it is diesel which I can tell you saves heaps of $$. My tribeca just sucks up fuel 14L/100km but the citreon does 5L/100km which is nice when fuel hits $1.60! the middle row and third row seats all fold up flat, handy if you were going to the market.
LOL I went out with friends this morning and had to get her hubby to parallel park for me! How embarrassing! I haven’t done it since my driving lesson days and avoid it too! Swish car your looking at!
I have 5 kids (Between 2 and 12) in a Tarago. We find it plenty big enough, even with a weeks shopping, buggy, football/cricket/tennis kits and a dog – just make sure it’s the model with the back row that folds into the floor. I think it’s a good compromise between a car and a bus.
I briefly had an Imax, while mine was in the garage, and scraped the roof going into our local Westfield carpark – oops!!
My sister has a 15-passenger van for her family (7 kids). It’s a dark red color – they call it “Clifford the big red van”! (She parks way out in the empty parts of parking lots – who doesn’t need a little exercise?!!
My friend has one of these and she has 7, yes SEVEN, kids ranging from 21 – 9 and everyone fits perfectly into it. Takes car seats with ease. She recently had someone rear end her quite hard & the other car came off badly. Her car is pretty good. Mechanic told her they’re one of the best cars of this size on the market. The only downside you’ll have is parking it. Very long & you won’t be able to get into all underground car parks because of the height. A good choice if there are any further bubbas, plus don’t forget all of the friends who you’ll also transport around as they get older.
Dude, we drive the tightarse version of this (the Transporter w/ plastic flooring. I know the limitations of my children.)
I went to driving that from an Elantra hatchback. You know what? EASIER TO PARK – bigger windows, shorter snout at the front – bingo.
And here’s the tip – WAY easier to reverse park than nose in. Trust me.
Just go to a supermarket carpark after dark and practice a few times.
I promise, you’ll get it in a snap.
get the rear sensors if you’re nervous. & I think VW even do front sensors too!!! We’ve got a subaru so just have rear sensors, but LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them. Would get front too if I could
I TOLD you to get the VW multi-van! My sister has the same one, remember. I’m still doing the Volvo, but I’ve only got the three kidlets and another two for school pick up. x
Parking is not my thing either. Isn’t that why we have legs ????
My kids know that when Mum drives to school we park a block or two away and walk but when Dad drives they may even get to the front gate.
Parking is so overrated!
I saw one of these on the road today, and i thought of you driving it.
I take it back. That would be MUCH harder to park than the Landcruiser.
