Simple Summer Top

While Keira was at her kindy for the day, retro daddy was in the office (instead of being on holidays) and in between loads of laundry, sterilising bottles, tending to babies and talking on the phone to my nana…I moved the sewing machine to the dining room

got out a new pattern and fabric I picked up yesterday at Spotlight (just because it was so nice to shop on my own and not because I needed to buy a new pattern and fabric)

and made this top….now be warned that there is a lot of gathering so thread up a few bobbins before you start

I loved this pattern except when it told me to slipstitch the lining all around the yoke..honestly who has time for that…I just top stitched under the yoke catching all layers as I went.

the top is perfect for my post twin baby belly and the neckline is so sweet….it was just so lovely to be sewing again that I’m going to lock in some babysitting with retro daddy on weekends so I can sew some more!

  1. What a pretty top-I like the fabric.

  2. It is a lovely top. Glad that you got to make something for yourself too.

  3. Oh my friend was thinking of buying this pattern yesterday, it looks lovely, breezy and summery. Congrats on getting some time to sew for yourself.

  4. Oooooh I love it, particularly the neckline. I think I might get that pattern.

  5. Looks great. I agree – slipstitching – who has time for that? If you looked at hundreds of store bought garments you’d find very few slipstitched linings. I don’t know why commercial patterns suggest this? I think machine stitching gives a much neater finish.

  6. That’s such a pretty style. I desperately need a mannequin!

  7. Ooh! I love that top! Isn’t dedicated sewing time the best? I had some today and am hoping for some more tomorrow. And I’m actually making a top very similar to yours!

  8. Love the new look blog Corrie!! Your blouse looks lovely – perfect for summer.

  9. Lovely top! You’ve inspired me to make a summer top of my own. Now, to just find some pretty fabric…

    Happy New Year!
