mmmmm bunkering down yesterday out of the dust storm meant that I had some time up my sleeve to bake. CWA recipes are great because they use basic ingredients that you already have in your cupboard, nothing fancy here. I do draw the line at their mock chicken sandwiches….grated cheese and mayo, not sure they would fool anyone in this house. Anyway, we tried out their banana cake as muffins and were not disappointed!
3 mashed bananas
2 Tbsp butter or marg
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups SR flour
1 egg beaten
2 Tbsp milk
cream butter and sugar, add egg and combine, then bananas, sifted flour and milk. Combine after each addition and we poured into muffin tins and baked for 25 minutes in a 180 oven but you can bake in a cake tin for about 40 minutes.
and here is the leftover shirt just to prove those cute shorts came from a daddy shirt!
I believed you….the back pocket gave it away!!!!! So cute!
Off to try the muffins now….yum!!
Thanks

Yum – that’s just what I need for breakfast right about now…. sigh
I spy enough fabric left over to make some yoyos lol.
I was looking for new tutorials last night and found this one: http://www.luvinthemommyhood.com/2009/05/theres-no-such-thing-as-leftovers-pants.html it uses the leftover arms to make some very adorable pants!
My mum often tried to serve up mock chicken when we lived out west and had run out of real meat for lunch!!!! I love CWA cook books too.
Those banana muffins look great. I must try out the recipe.
Pleased to have found your blog on a hunt for the CWA banana cake recipe for a friend (to save typing it out, you realise)
Just wanted to add, in your banner… my sewing table has NEVER been that neat and lovely looking!

Couple of hints from one who’s been using this recipe for over 40 years….
-Add 1 teaspoon bicarb to the bananas as you mash them.
-Melt the butter and then add the sugar to it, mix into the banana/bicarb mix.
-Don’t “tap” the pan on the bench to remove air bubbles before you place in oven as that WILL make it flop.
-Don’t open oven door to check before time is up as loss of heat will also make the cake flop. Instead, observe through the glass and you will see slight browning around edge of pan and cake will pull away from the sides. Slight cracking may also appear on the top of the cake.
How do I store the muffins
