quick and satisfying quilt for a little friend

Whenever I sit down to make a quilt I remember why I love the process so much. And I say to myself I need to make more quilts. But life (and knitting) always gets in the way. It’s much easier for me to knit on the go or outside watching everyone play than lock myself away in my sewing room. Anyway, one of our little girl’s friends has been in hospital a few times this year and I decided he needed a quilt. Now of course the time that I sat down to start the quilt and when I actually finished the quilt was just a tad longer than I expected….because other things popped up and life gets in the way. But I found all of the charm squares from different packs and they go together nicely. I would say that 90% of my fabric stash is girly girl so I had to dig deep for boy colours and I’m happy with the mix. I also wanted some interesting fabrics in there so he could look at the little details.

I added the border and backing in dottie by moda and the binding I made from a Bonnie & Camille fabric. The quilting and binding I did in a few days and it feels great to get this quilt out of the room and off to its new home tomorrow.

And having a nice old gate to hang my quilts and blankets off never gets old. I always dreamed of having some old fences and gates and I’m a bit spoilt for choice here with gates and fences.
