wishing you a happy & holy Christmas 2015

Well it’s Christmas Eve. While all of the preparations are underway for tomorrow the most special thing we do is mass on Christmas Eve and preparing our hearts for Christmas day.

Each year I try not to get caught up in the busyness, rush and commercialism of Christmas. Yes I love the baking, treats and gift giving but am forever reminding myself of the real reason we celebrate Christmas. Thank goodness for Advent and beautiful carols to sing. We’ve been singing along to the radio and some of our favourites during Advent. Mind you we have one little one who only wants to sing jingle bells.

Every Christmas I get a bit older and learn more about the true meaning of Christmas and as my faith grows so does my love of this special time of year. It really is a miracle when I reflect on what happened all those years ago in Bethlehem. It was no coincidence that the Holy Family were humble and that Jesus was not born into wealth or royalty. In a world today that praises the celebrity, the rich, and the flashy we should never forget that Jesus and his family were none of these. I know who I want to follow and teach my children to follow as well.

My Christmas wish for everyone is a happy and peaceful time, a time to reflect on the year and its ups and downs. To be grateful for the roof over our heads, the comforts we have, the people around us, to keep praying for peace and happiness to people who don’t have it and an extra hug for those who are missing loved ones who have gone before us. I hope you have memories of those special people and carry them in your heart and your celebrations this Christmas season.

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6
