winding things down

One of the things about being a mum and working from home is that you don’t get maternity leave. There is no magic date in your diary when you leave the ‘office’ and start to really get ready for your new arrival. And so in the past I’ve kept working and answering emails and kept the blog going from my couch or dining table with a newborn.

And so I’m taking August and September off and I’m so looking forward to it. Maybe it’s just the thought of having 6 little ones to look after that has made me realise that I need to do things differently this time around.

I’ll blog when I feel like it, sell some fabric on the side with my wonderful friend posting it out (my little store is almost ready), share some cute baby photos, share some knitting projects (haha if I get any knitting done) but most of all will not worry about the blog and just enjoy some family time and a new little life in our family. Of course if you’ve had a newborn then you know the reality will be that I’ll be feeding around the clock, getting next to no sleep, trying to keep on top of the washing and everyone fed and happy. And that’s going to be my number 1 priority.

So please bear with me this month while I get everything wrapped up on the blog and the home front…………5 weeks and counting…….

Yes Corrie. It’s time to prioritise and put yourself at the top of the list. I’ll look forward to anything from you no matter how infrequent.
This is such an exciting time for your family and I wish you all well as you accept another cherished child into your world.
    Bless you all. X

  3. Such an exciting time. Enjoy your beautiful family. X

  4. Of course I will miss you but you have family to consider first. I’ll be thinking of you and will look forward to the big news in five weeks time. Take care.

  5. Katrina says:

So excited for you. Good luck and hope everything goes well.

  6. Sounds wonderful and very sensible, take care.

  7. Yes, even when you work from home its still hard fitting it all in. I’ve recently started my blog and it takes up a lot more time than I realised. Enjoy your time with the family and your newborn, they are tiny for such a short time. I am one of 6 and it was great growing up in such a busy full household. I do remember it taking forever to leave the house on a daily basis, finding all those shoes, hats, scarves, coats (we grew up in the UK) so I appreciate how much you have to do. Take it easy. x

  8. I think this post may be my very favourite of yours ever. It takes courage and much faith to know your limits and honour your priorities. I’m incredibly inspired, Corrie, and wish you much patience, strength and love in the weeks leading up to the birth. x

I have just loved following along with your pregnancy Corrie, and I am only a few weeks behind you. I’m also planning on taking a little break to soak up life with my new babe and my 2 other big babies. Blessings to you and your family for the coming special time. The moments of our life that we cannot rewind and will spend our lives reflecting on with a smile, I think. Enjoy my dear xx Love, Pip.

  12. Yes Corrie, you need to look after yourself. I have never figured the secret of your boundless energy (cuz I would bottle it and make lots of money). But the older I was during a pregnancy (not to mention that I only had 3), I was more tired and run down. So don’t worry about us – your blog is SO GOOD that we’ll be here when you get back. Enjoy.

  13. Great idea Corrie, not just for your family but for you too. xo

Enjoy every moment with your new addition… You know very well how quickly they grow!! Remember that a picture is a thousand words and that would be wonderful but nothing is expected. You are amazing and your family is beautiful… We will be always here, take time for your family but also for you!!

  15. I am going to miss you, Corrie! Who’s going to help me maintain my sanity for 2 months then??!!

But yes, you really ought to rest, have fun with your newborn, enjoy your family bonding, and not worry about the blog, emails, etc.

I will enjoy your blog for the rest of July, and look forward to your return in October:)

Good idea Corrie to stop and smell the roses and enjoy your new little one when the time comes and also have some precious family moments with the whole family, you cannot get these moments back. So enjoy and all the best for the birth of number 6 and look forward to the return of your blog…..hope you let us know what the new baby is and the name before you take leave xx

  17. Oh my gosh! I saw this picture of you with a baby on FB and I thought “No, I’m sure it’s not time yet. And she’s knitting!” Now I realise it’s one of your other gorgeous babies. I’m glad you are taking time to relax and enjoy the excitement and anticipation of baby’s arrival, but I know you will also be kept on your toes just keeping up with everyday life. I knew when I was expecting baby number 6 that this was more than likely the last one and I kept reminding myself to enjoy the moment and soak up every little cuddle with my newborn. Even the ones in the middle of the night. After all, it’s about the only cuddle time we have when we aren’t thinking about the million other things we should be doing. I will keep an eye out for any posts you have time for and really look forward to hearing your news and lots of baby photos. So exciting! Enjoy every moment.

  18. Good for you, Corrie. It is definitely time for you to relax. Best wishes to you and your family.

  19. Enjoy every moment Corrie and take the time you need. Your babes are only babes for so long and they need to be cherished. You are a great mum and have a big heart. Be blessed. x
