This post is brought to you by Woolworths
Now first of all I have to tell you that retro daddy has been buying products from the Macro Vegetarian range before I even got the brief for this post. And we’ve been loving them. So talk about a perfect blog post to write. Each week we always have some tofu in our shopping trolley and some sort of vegetarian product like a burger/sausage or something for daddy and the kids that is quick and easy. In this house meals have to be quick, easy and healthy. Oh and they have to be something that I know people will eat.
Eggplant & Lentil Ball wraps

And most of our dinners are vegetarian as I was vegetarian for such a big part of my life that it’s how I like to eat and what I know to cook. Now once upon a time I bought most of my tofu from the asian grocer because when I came back from living in London I was a bit disappointed in the range of products at the supermarket. These days things have improved and the range of vegie products is always growing. Mind you I still can get a bit confused if I’m at a new supermarket and am not sure where to find the tofu or vegie sausages in the chilled section.
Tofu, tamari & almond stir fry

The Macro Vegetarian range has around 30 new products to start with and we found these ones easily in the Woolies chilled section. I got to have a play around with a few delicious things from the range and make up some super easy recipes for you lovely people out there. I’ve made them quick and easy to prepare, nutritious and balanced. When you’re eating a vegetarian diet or even if you’re not vegetarian it’s important to have a nice balanced meal.

But don’t worry! You don’t have to be vegetarian to try these recipes and I’ve written them up assuming you haven’t cooked with these products before. I often get asked how do you cook with tofu or what tofu should I buy so I loved making up a delicious stir fry with the Macro Vegetarian Firm Tofu and I’ll show you how I get my tofu just right.
Vegie & Avocado Burgers

oh and if I had to pick a favourite…………….well for me it’s a close tie between the Eggplant and lentil ball wraps and the Tofu stir fry. But daddy and the kids loved the burgers and sausages so I think we’ve covered all bases with these recipes.

So you’ll find my four recipe cards here and if you’d like to try a few more recipes then Woolies has brought out great little recipe cards that you can pick up instore. My recipes all passed with flying colours here so I know you’ll be able to try them out at your house too AND they have the added bonus of being good for you too.
And don’t forget to keep an eye out for the Macro Vegetarian products the next time you’re at Woolies…..you can think of me as you walk past the range instore.

Corrie, when your post went up this morning the only place I could see for a comment was under the recipes. I’ve come back this afternoon and see comments again, so am copying what I said on your recipe file.
I like Macro products too, especially the organic milk. When I lived at Killara, I did a lot of shopping at the Macro shop at Hornsby. Big shop, bulk products, lots of organic stuff. And a cute little cafe selling good salads and burgers for lunches as well as good coffee.
Then Woolworths took them over. I was devastated. I had to laugh at the sign in WW – “Now you can buy Macro products at WW.” Well yes, you could but there were about ten products. Yes the range is expanding now, thank goodness, and I can get my organic peanut butter with absolutely no additives. However, what is currently available is merely a minute amount of what they used to sell. Still, it is expanding, although it will never be as big as it was because the store was about as big as a normal Woolies.
The Macro stores (when bought by WW) were rebranded to Thomas Dux. I never shopped when it was Macro, but I have a local Thomas Dux and I love it. It is good too that the Macro Organic range in Woolworths are increasing – much more accessible.
hi Jan, thanks! yes for some reason comments were switched off and I left the house for the day! all good!!!!
Corrie:)
I’m so glad you wrote this post Corrie. Ever since my sister became a vegetarian I have been tempted by these products as I walk past them while shopping, especially the tofu, but I had no idea what to do with it. And my sister just happens to be coming to stay with us for her graduation this month, so I have been trying to think of quick meals I can keep in the house for her as she rushes in and out catching up with friends. The tomato, onion and basil burgers sound great and I think the sausages might be a great place to start with the kids.
