say goodbye to the green carpet

Prepare to be amazed…………………

I can’t quite believe that the green carpet came out today. I know it’s just the downstairs but after living with this carpet for almost a year, well I just kind of thought that it was never going to come out. At our old house it was all floorboards and white walls when we bought it and it just made a nice blank canvas.

Bright green and brown swirl carpet and biscuit coloured walls do not fall into that category. And as much as we would have loved to have changed it as soon as we moved in we just didn’t have the funds to do it. So save and wait we did. And yes, trust me, I complained about that carpet plenty of times.

And I know a few of you over on instagram have been telling me you love the green carpet and are sad to see it go. I’m touched. Really I am. The thing is that I’m pretty sure if you lived with it that you’d be getting rid of it too. It’s everywhere. Mind you it’s been fabulous for hiding stains.

I accidentally knocked off my coffee this morning just for old times sake. Just after telling retro daddy to watch out for my coffee.

The process will take a week from start to finish and I can’t wait to see the progress. The floorboards are in really great condition underneath. Probably due to the fact that the house was built in the 70’s. Sanding, polishing and staining them is basically the cheapest floor option but also it just makes sense since the floorboards are in such great condition and can be stained a dark colour.

And that is that……………can’t wait to show you when they are stained and looking even more fabulous.

Oooo love love love your floorboards Corrie, they’re gorgeous! Can’t wait to see them once they’re all finished. The light is beautiful in your place… and the walls are looking fantastic too xo

  16. Your house is looking amazing Corrie! Isnt is awesome when what you have imagined it looking like for so long actually starts to happen

  17. They look great Corrie, it’s all coming together beautifully. Unbelieveable to think there was a time when green carpet was thought to be a better option than beautiful floorboards.

  18. Fantastic !! Amazing transformation.

  19. I makes the rooms look so much bigger without that busy green carpet.

  20. The floors will be just beautiful, hope you kept a piece of carpet to frame lol.

  21. Stunning already and cant wait for the updates! Back in the 80’s I was living in an old house with carpets that showed the dirt all the time. When I suggested to my then hubbie that we could just take off the carpet he said “bare floors? only poor people have bare floorboards”…. I won the argument of course and years later when the house was on the market, “polished floors” was a highlight of the real estate ad!!!!
Anyway, next time you have the time (LOL) to answer questions, I would love to know what timber the boards are, and what are you doing upstairs! Congrats, it’s going to be an even awesomer house!

  22. So excited for you Corrie. Simply amazing! It’s all coming together nicely painting and all. Looking forward to seeing your newly stained floors next week….

  23. The floorboards look in great condition as you never know what you might find when you lift carpet. The dark stain will look wonderful. Can’t wait to see the result.

  24. Oh I would keep this option for sure!! People pay BIG money for this option.

  25. Oh my! How can anybody hide this marvellous wooden floor underneath that … u…unbelievable green carpet?
Your new “old” floor will look fantastic – oh, no – it already does!

  26. The transformation is really fantastic. Can’t wait to see the finished house!

  27. Wow that looks so amazing.
It will be well worth it, in the end.

Wow pulling up the carpet instantly modernises the house. I probably wouldn’t have stained the boards as I quite like the light colour of them.

  29. WOW WOW WOW it’s alreasy looking amazing. You have great vision, you would be great on The Block, Retro daddy would cope right?

  30. WOW! That looks amazing. That carpet really was hideous!! I quite like the natural colour of the timber aswell. x

  31. Waiting makes it all the more exciting when you finally get to do it. The floor boards alfeady look great, can’t wait to see the finished product.

  32. Wow – the house looks transformed already! Imagine what it will look like when the boards are actually finished!! And, for the record, I did not love your carpet either (though am happy you had the bonus of hiding stains for a year!)!

  33. It looks like a totally different house! So bright and airy now, you will be in heaven when it’s all finished xx

  34. I had to flood my house (not purposefully of course) to get my new carpet. Floorboards would have been lovely but alas we had concrete. I love my new carpet and I am sure you will enjoy the stained floorboards.

  35. Sensational. Nothing like a lick of paint and raw boards. Well done

  36. What an amazing transformation!!! Can’t wait to see how it all looks with the furniture back in place.

  37. The hardwood floors look amazing. Great new look. Just wondering what you did with the stairs. That staircase would look so good with wood steps and a carpet runner on them. Now i assume it is on to the upstairs?

  38. I love love love your windows! I wish our new house had some 60’s style, alas I’m stuck with 80’s daggy ranch style. The light coming into your home is divine, I can almost see it finished and looking amazing.
