must.stop.eating

Oh my goodness, the problem with hosting two days of festivities is that we are surrounded with leftovers. Everywhere I look there is something calling out to be eaten. Corrie…..eat me! Sure, we could choose not to eat it, to close the fridge or keep on walking but heh it’s Christmas once a year! And normally I send everyone home with little care packages but it was such a crazy whirlwind few days I just forgot! Mind you I am impressed that I did try a few new dishes  this year…………….like my first ever trifle!
my first ever trifle
pavlova……ok I cheated with this one by buying a last minute pre-made base (remember I have a newborn – mmmmmm wonder how long am I going to use that excuse!) and then chucked the precious fresh raspberries around in my sieve so that they were splattered all over the pavlova but I learnt my lesson, won’t do that again.
the pavlova
and some gorgeous salads from this blog – a delicious creamy potato salad and this sweet potato salad which was just perfect! I just wanted simple but tasty recipes and these delivered!
a delicious new salad I tried
We took a break from eating to do some shopping at the sales this morning. Nothing for me but the best way to buy up for next summer and outfit 4 children. My tactic in the sales is always to buy quality, buy it on sale, stick to your basic colours (for me its navy, white, red, pink, khaki) and you’re doing well. But I must admit that retro daddy is still learning. He turns to me in country road and says do you really need another white platter? Oh retro daddy, a gorgeous large white platter for $15……….I need 3! And so I bought them!
my mum wants the moet back
my sweet mum poses for the photo with the sweet platter!
But then it was straight back into some eating again as soon as we got home! When else can I have delicious fruit cakes and chocolate for lunch. I hope you’re all enjoying a little break and enjoying some sweet treats too…………….

  1. Oh Corrie, everything looks sooo yummy! I’ve jsut revamped my home exercise routine to try to combat this exact problem – tasty, tasty leftovers :-)

  2. Corrie, I have your problem too…rum fudge slice with real dark chocolate on top and a cappucino for two breakfasts running now..thank goodness there is no more for tomorrow! It is a hard time of year to resist the leftovers…though some people do.

  3. What a gorgeous christmas! I know exactly how you feel about the food. I can’t move! I am so full, I have just had lunch, but before that there was a big breakfast with a sweets plate, morning tea, more sweets and now lunch. I love the look of that sweet potato salad, I might try it in the new year – not now, as there are far too many leftovers in the fridge!!!

  4. Oh that sweet potato salad looks GREAT!! will have to try it.
We havent had too many leftovers because we jsut had family here for breakfast and then had loads of prawns for us… YUM! And you are right, Christmas is only once a year.. hehehe. We hit the sales today too, I actually bought me stuff which is miraculous… bit disturbed I had to buy my 9 year old size 6 womens allstars though…

  5. You never fail to amuse, Corrie. I’m pleased you’ve had such an enjoyable family time at Christmas.

I’m not sure where you’re up to with BF etc but I highly recommend the Tony Ferguson shakes for losing weight. It’s done me wonders. J x

  6. Yes, I know the feeling. I have been throwing back the chocolate covered macadamias like a mad woman!
Hula hooping is the answer I’m sure!

  7. Your food looks wonderful! I’m going for a huge walk tomorrow as I feel like I haven’t stopped eating for days. I’ll be pleased when the mince pies are finished and the Christmas ham

  8. Oh no, we’re in the same boat! I got leftovers and couldn’t resist the desserts especially. And those are gorgeous plates, what a bargain! Glad you had a great Christmas! (You may want to pop over my blog for my latest giveaway).

  9. Oh yum!! Hello to your mummy!!
Our sales were on Boxing Day, don’t you wish you were still an ACT girl?? You know how tiny our population is & how small our shopping centres are, i got in & out early & pow, it was fantastic, mind you, had to return to get two sets of shoes in different sizes. Also bought a KitchenAid food processor, possibly the ONLY thing in DJs NOT on sale, but hey, we’ve wanted to add one to the collection for about 8 years?? We’ve used it 4 times already in 2 days, it’s fantastic. Hope to see you in the next 48 hours, love Posie

  10. Your Trifle looked Beatiful I bet it went down well…I bought a platter at the sales too half price…seems we both did well…
    yours is Gorgeous…
KWYM about all the leftovers…hope they are Gone Soon for You….
    cheers

  11. Merry Christmas dear Corrie and all the family! And of course you need another white platter! I have lots of them and they always come in handy! 😀

  12. Lovely pics Corrie. I’m guilty too of eating what is still in the fridge (aka your Rocky Road!!)

Do share the Trifle recipe if you can.

  13. What gorgeous food and I know exactly how you feel about eating way to much food. I am sitting here typing and feeling like a beached whale – I do not need to eat for a week I am sure. Kylie xx

  14. mmm I love trifle – so good! We had the opposite problem. We hosted no meals this year so came home to an empty fridge! Thank goodness we have eaten so well we hardly needed any food anyways!

  15. All that food looks lovely! We eliminate the leftovers problem by going out for lunch…but then i dont have any excuses for having cakes and chocolate for lunch!

  16. I love the title of this blog. I think you should write must.stop.cooking.so.delicious ;))

  17. Okay, my mouth is watering now! Send me the recipes and I will start my diet the second week of January. 😉

  18. Thanks for becoming a follower of my blog! This spread looks amazing….I can’t stop eating either & have decided to send lots of the chocolate to my husbands work!! I am off to look around the rest of your blog now :) Sarah

  19. Corrie, I know what you mean, I hosted Christmas and am still eating truffles, cheesecakes, ice cream cakes, ham and turkey, I don’t think it will ever end.

  20. Que buena pinta tienen esos dulces y además con la botella de Cava seguro que estarán riquísimos.
    Feliz Fin de Año.
    Besos

  21. Mmm, gorgeous spread of yummies. Nice trifle! Re pavlova and newborns…you can stretch out the newborn theme till about 6 months and then the little dears usually begin breaking teeth and keep you up all night. I only had 3 kids but it worked ok for me *big smile*.
