feeling festive fabric

As I walked into SL yesterday, I turned to my mum and said this is one of the stores I never brave on my own with these three. Only 20 minutes later and there was high pitched screaming that my mum could hear from the other end of the store – that would have been Tillie. The only way we got out of the store with a scrap of dignity was by buying each of them a pair of princess shoes – yes Finn wore snow white high heels out of the store and people were doing a double take.
but anyway back to my festive fabrics….I picked up these lovely Michael Miller fabrics which will be added to my festive fabric stash and used for christmas shortie pj’s (for the little people of course, you won’t catch me in anything above the knee and certainly not this summer), christmas stockings, some applique, a table runner and perhaps a bunting!
and this fabric – well I took what they had and that was only 2 1/2 metres but enough to make some very sweet summer dresses for christmas. It’s a gorgeous festive fabric and I just love red and white at Christmas time.  Do you have a festive fabric stash too????

  1. I don’t take mine to Spotlight either – it has become a weekends only affair. As for Christmas fabric, I have a little stash – I haven’t bought any yet this year, but there are some lovely ones out there at the moment.

  2. i love your xmas fabric especialy the 2 traditional looking ones they are lovely. Awww i remember taking little ones into shops well ;-)) Even now i won’t take my 14 and 10 year old boys into a supermarket together my idea of hell ;-)) Enjoy your lovely fabric. Dee x

  3. He he, i remember the giddy days of taking 4 into Spotlight & my twins would grab people’s ankles or they’d get behind the rugs & push/ swing them out into the walkways. Pretty much go in with the attitude that’s it’s Spotlight, with children, leave your dignity at the door. Love Posie

  4. Yep my 3 turn into maniacs in Spotlight aswell! We were there yesterday too and I only knew where they were from the screams and fabric falling over! I don’t know why I keep doing it to myself!!

I have just bought some gorgeous Michael Miller Christmas fabric too for pjs. Too cute!

  5. It makes me feel very grateful that my boys are older (17 & 13). Although they do misbehave if I take both of them into spotlight. You’d think at that age they would know better!
I love your Christmas stash. The vintage Santa looks great as does the snowflakes.

  6. I actually Wish there would be a shop similar to spotlight here in France!!!
Unfortunately most French women are not very creative so the shops that do exist are very small and quite expensive.

I think you’re pretty courageous going out with all three and about to give birth no matter what the shop!!

You’re not only Retro Mummy but In my eyes also Super Mummy! Good on you.

  7. Beautiful fabrics, Christmas pj’s are a lovely idea, fleecy blankets may be a better idea for my family as it will be much colder over here, thanks for the inspiration!

  8. I avoid taking my little angels into spotlight too. The only reason I did today was because it is school holidays and spotlight had 20% off everything. I left empty handed though :( All I’ll say is, it was a BAD idea lol!

  9. That red and white fabric is just divine! It looks so Nordic! 😀

  10. Will you be selling the pjs anywhere. How gorgeous to put on your festive jarmies for Santa. I have a lovely sewing machine but no idea how to use it, best I just purchase instead.

  11. I made a Spotlight trip yesterday…… grrrr. Only 2 children, but Layla refused to go in the pram, or Ergo, so I had to carry her (no trolleys of course). The assistant decided that she would roll my 5m of Easy-Trace onto an old cardboard roll, despite my protests that it was not necessary, and that I didn’t have the space for it at home. She told me she would just pull the roll out when she was finished….. of course it wouldn’t come out. Unroll, fold, pay….. “Sorry we don’t have any bags” – 2 children (one carried), purchases falling out of my arms…..

  12. Ive only got two but they do go a bit silly in there don’t they I think its all the colours !! About two years ago mine tried to hide amongst the velvet $49.95 a metre i was “trying” to divert their attention when a SL person got a bit cranky. Now i have 1 at prep so i only take one and she always comes away with her own ‘terial mummy ! I got some of that fabric too there was some really delicious stuff there

  13. I am sure Spotlight plan their 20% of sales KNOWING that it is school holidays! I braved Spotlight on Thursday with my 3 kids (9, 7.5 and almost 5) and surprisingly it went quite well. Probably cause they knew Mummy would be very upset having taken 1.5hr on public transport to get there!!

  14. GORGEOUS christmas fabrics.
I wonder if my SL has the same…probably not, it’s a pretty disappointing SL.

  15. oOOOOHHH!!!! I so want the top 2 fabrics – very very retro

  16. Wow are those fabrics from Spotlight??? I would love some of those but alas no Spotlights near me.
