Don’t Look Now Workshop Part II

Well I’m getting there, I’ve meaning to post the rest of the photos of our fabulous quilting weekend all week so here you go. No, wait, I think I still have a Part III post to come. The weekend was so fabulous I’m hoping Kellie will be coming up twice next year to teach again for me! And trust me I need all the practice I can get. First up, I had to share this funny photo of Sheridan and Cath – just proving that we weren’t heads down all day…..

working......
and here was our youngest visitor, Noah, the grandson of Janet. I made a very special exception for him to come along so that Janet could attend. What a little angel and so well behaved!  Finn kept trying to steal his cookie monster toy and loved it so much that we had to let him take it down the car, swap a toy and take it off him and I’d bring it up to the room!

I think the best thing I got from the weekend was how to use my machine more effectively for free motion.  I mastered the knee lift and also realised I was using the wrong quilting gloves. Kellie actually uses Ansell Hyflex gloves which come from the supermarket NOT your local quilting store. Two of our lovely students who are engineers ‘borrowed’ some from their work (shhhhhhhhhhh) and they were fabulous!  Very industrial looking in black and grey but if you’re in the market for some serious quilting gloves at a not so serious price then check out here.
kellie shows us her method of applique
And what about Amelia’s work, she was quite the star student with her applique………unlike yours truly who was going off onto the muslin then in too far onto the leaf, then back onto the muslin. Think about it, you are appliquing with the feed dogs down and trying to do flowers and leaves…not easy….

beautiful work by amelia

and how about Janet’s machine…….very impressive. A little scary and that’s just the price..

and let’s not forget Kellie’s gorgeous work. To see it all close up and be able to admire it is really something. And then when you actually try your hand at it and realise how hard it is….well let’s keep admiring. This is my favourite of Kellie’s quilts, called Meg’s Garden

and I love these smaller projects……..I’ll be sticking to cushions for the time being

pretty cushion

And here is something Kellie’s working on at the moment, her Lilly Pilly pattern which uses needle turn applique. I love that this one is on linen, it’s just so pretty.

more photos coming next week………..

  1. Wow. That’s talented! It looks like much fun. x

  2. Wow, what a fab time, Kellie is so amazing… truly a very talented quilter… and mum and person…. Glad you had a great time and practice, practice, practice is what Kellie says… I need to do more of it too..
    Hugs Dawn x x x

  3. I have one of Kellie’s patterns as I think her work is the most beautiful in the world. How she does the quilting is quite beyond me. I do want to learn some day. Imagine seeing all that beauty in a little girl’s bedroom.

  4. Give yourself a pat on the back from me, it wasn’t just Kellies amazing talent and teaching that made the workshop such a success, it was also the organising.
It was so fantastic to see her work up close, I’ve been practicing and found some of those good gloves at Coles.

  5. Wow, those are beautiful – I love bold splashes of colour, so pretty!

  6. What a fun weekend you all had with Kellie..

Can you please let me know when you are having Kellie up again next year. Can my name be added to your list so I can be contacted when you know the dates. Ta. I would LOVE to come too.

    Thanks

    Sandy

  7. So fun to see the new Lilly Pilly! I teased Kellie the whole time we were in Minneapolis about the Lilly Pilly and she said she was going to start a new one. I can’t believe how quickly she can make a new quilt. And I totally agree with you — to admire her work in person is amazing — especially when you realize how HARD it is!

  8. It was such a fun weekend, learnt so much. Great work on organising it Corrie ! Thank you :)

  9. Thanks for putting this workshop on you did a great job!!! For me it was well worth the trip! I got back to mums and got straight on to making some cushions (she popped them on her blog if you want to have a look).

I really can’t thank you enough for the weekend! Kellie is a brill teacher.

I would love to get a copy of that baby of mine – if you could email me that would be most appreciated!
    All the best
